…see, I have heart disease.

My blood pressure and cholesterol levels are through the roof.

I have to take medication every day to keep my blood pressure under control.

I’ve also had a life-long medical condition known as arrhythmia…

…my heart can beat out of control upwards of 200 beats per minute!

It was so serious as a child that I was even in intensive care for a few days. Since then, I’ve learned to control it when it sporadically re-enters my life.

I don’t have to be doing anything physically demanding either…

…I’ve had it act up for bending down and picking up something from the floor and for the past two nights I have awoke in the middle of the night from it acting up. Weird. That’s never happened before.

With all of this being said, today I felt prompted to take it somewhat easy, not to over exert myself, and do some research on how to have a healthy heart…

…if I don’t do something, I could be having a heart attack! I am three times more likely to have one than the average male.

Tips for a Healthy Heart

1. GO NUTS – Apparently, your hearth will love you if you eat six walnuts before lunch and dinner. Why? Because walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help to decrease inflammation in the arteries surrounding your heart, so they keep your heart functioning longer and better. Walnuts will also make you feel fuller faster so you are less likely to overeat at meals…who knew?!

2. DE-STRESS – Unplug yourself from the news cycle and your email. It’s good for you and your ticker. And that beings with your smartphone. Start turning it off 15 minutes at a time and work up to an hour a day to reduce stress. Stress raises blood pressure, heart rate, and levels of the stress hormone cortisol. The last couple of days, I’ve been home taking care of the kids while my wife has been working…coincidence? Hmmm…

3. WEIGHT TRAINING – Strength training reduces your percentage of body fat, keeps your weight down, and increases your muscle mass and endurance for aerobic exercise. Do some weight training with free weights twice a week, making sure to focus on both your upper and lower body as your aerobic capacity improves through strength training, your good HDL cholesterol levels will increase.

4. MEASURE YOUR WAIST – Take a tape measure and measure your middle. If your waist size is more than 35″ in women or more than 40″ in mend, this tells you that you are at increased risk for heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Get serious about more active and get rid of simple sugar and white-floured foods in your diet. These foods tend to take up residence right around the middle.

5. REDUCE SALT – High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease, and reducing salt intake can help lower blood pressure. Cook with herbs in place of salt, and make sure you read food labels to see just how much salt is in prepared foods. Aim for less than 2.3 grams (about a teaspoon) of salt per day.

6. SLEEP – People who sleep fewer than seven hours a night have higher blood pressure and higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol, making the arteries more vulnerable to plaque buildup. In fact, the latest research shows that people who do not get enough sleep are more than twice as likely as others to die of heart disease. Try to avoid caffeine after noon, and develop a stress-free wind-down ritual before bed. Try taking a bath instead of paying the bills right before bed.

With that being said, to have a proven success formula is to follow a recipe that has resulted in one’s desired results. This 4-Step Proven Success Formula is universal and can be used by anyone to achieve anything they desire.

4-Step Proven Success Formula

  1. INTENTION – You must have a CLEAR INTENTION of what you want to accomplish! What are you trying to accomplish? Your intention needs to be specific. For example, just to say that you want to lose weight isn’t enough. Define how much weight you want to lose within a a definite frame of time.
  2. STRATEGY – To have a STRATEGY for success is to have a PLAN! A plan is developed in advance on how to accomplish your clear intentions. With the example of losing weight, this strategy may include an exercise and diet regime. Like step #1, you strategic plan needs to be clear with specific things to do that will result in success.
  3. SIMPLICITY – Keep it simple. We tend to overcomplicate our intentions and even our strategic plan. If our intentions are too high and our strategy involves too much is enough for most people to not even take the most important step, action.
  4. ACTION – To have a CLEAR INTENTION, the best STRATEGY, and in its most SIMPLE form does you nothing if you don’t take ACTION! You need to actually get out the bowl, the ingredients, and mix it all together and finally put it in the oven to bake! The cookies aren’t going to make themselves. TAKE ACTION and BEGIN NOW to follow your simple strategy to accomplish your clear intentions.

  1. INHALE AN ENERGIZING SCENT. Research suggests that lemon and peppermint scents are energizing. Have an occasional cup of lemon peppermint tea…or chew peppermint gum. Keep a bottle of peppermint and/or lemon extract to sniff…or experiment with potpourri containing other energizing scents such as pine, jasmine, or orange.
  2. SIP ICE WATER. It keeps your cells hydrated andhelps you burn calories.
  3. PRACTICE “ONE-BREATH” MEDITATION.You don’t have to spend years mastering mediation. This one-breath method is a powerful, straightforward relaxation technique that can be practiced anytime, anywhere. Try it whenever you feel fatigued or out of sorts.What to do: Sit in a comfortable chair. Straighten your back, relax your shoulders and take a deep breath. Let the air “open” your chest. Imagine it filling every cell in your body. Hold the breath for a moment, then exhale, releasing every bit of tension.
  4. MINIMIZE NOISE AT HOME AND AT WORK. Loud or irritating sound creates severe emotional and physical tension. Fortunately, many aggravating noises can be silenced.
  5. BASK IN BRIGHT LIGHT. Most people get a powerful surge of energy from sunlight or bright indoor light. Try moving your desk chair closer to a window…or, better yet, take a five-minute outdoor walk every few hours.
  6. DO ABDOMINAL EXERCISE. Use this technique while sitting at your desk or while stuck in traffic. Sit up straight. Place hands on hips with thumbs pointing toward your back. Exhale slowly and completely, pushing the last air out forcefully with your lower abdominals.
  7. PERFORM MENTAL “CROSS-TRAINING.” Cross-training is the process by which you “stretch” your mind in as many different directions as possible by engaging in a variety of mental and physical activities. Word puzzles and other games are an easy way to perform this cross-training.
  8. COOK WITH “NUTRICEUTICALS.” These are vegetables, herbs and spices that have specific healing properties like garlic, onions, basil, cumin, turmeric, black pepper, jalapenos, hot red peppers, mustard oil, and cinnamon.
  9. CHECK YOUR READING POSTURE. Poor posture–leaning over a desk, for instance–can cause tension headaches, vision problems and pain in the jaw and/or neck.
  10. DO TRIGGER-POINT THERAPY. Wherever you feel tense, feel a tight band of muscle tissue–a trigger point. Press or squeeze it with light to moderate pressure. Continue pressing for 5-10 seconds, then release.
  11. CURB INDOOR POLLUTION. Whenever possible, keep your windows open. All gas appliances should be checked annually and properly vented to the outside to limit their output of carbon monoxide. Use exhaust fans in the bathroom, kitchen and garage whenever you use these rooms. Make your home and office smoke-free.
  12. DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. “Lyming” is the Caribbean art of doing nothing–without feeling guilty about it. Try lyming frequently to give your brain time to process all the information it receives over the course of the day.

Nature's Greatest MiracleIn the past when ever something “weird” happened to me or my family that was health related I would always refer to us a Freak of Nature…

…recently I’ve changed perspective and now believe I am Nature’s Greatest Miracle.

Let’s go back in time several months to November 2011.

One day I started noticing in the vision of my right eye a “cloudy strip.” I wear contacts and when I don’t clean them often enough that sometimes happens.

I didn’t really pay attention to it and thought it’d go away on it’s own.

After a few days it was still there. So I took out my contacts, gave them a good cleaning, put them back in…the cloudy vision was still there.

It must be the contact then I decided! I took them out threw them away and put in new ones…the coudly vision was still there.

Okay, so it’s not the contacts or the whole package was messed up. I took them out, and just started using my glasses…the cloudy vision was still there. It didn’t matter if my contacts or glasses were being used or not!

I finally narrowed it down, something was definitely obstructing my vision in the eye itself. I just brushed it off as another incident of being a freak of nature and figured it’d figure itself out on it’s own and would clear up in a few days.

A few days passed and still it wasn’t getting better…in fact it was getting worse!

I started complaining so much about it that my wife said I should probably get it checked out or suggested it was a “detached retina.” I’m like most typical guys…I don’t ask for directions or go to the doctor right?

But I decided to hop on WebMD (first mistake) and looked up the definition of a detached retina…“When part or all of the retina comes off (detaches from) the back of the eye…It can cause blurred or lost vision. Retinal detachment requires immediate medical care.”

The next thing I know I’m on the phone with my eye doctor scheduling an emergency appointment with him the next day.

To make a long story short, I was diagnosed with a “Branch Retina Vein Occlusion” and was referred to a specialist for care. I met with him the next day.

When a vein in the eye experiences a blockage, this is a retinal vein occlusion, which can cause decreased and distorted vision. Basically blood was coming into my eye just fine, but had a hard time going out and started to hemorrhage causing the blurred vision.

My eye specialist said that there’s one treatment to help the effects…injecting a shot of medicine called Avistan into the eye to decrease the swelling. Avistan is a drug that developed and approved for the treatment of cancer, but apparently works well on this type of condition.

Since November 2011 I’ve been getting a needle poked into my eye injecting this medicine and will continue for another 12-18 months or more. The medicine does it’s job and stays in my system for 4-5 weeks and like clock work, cloudy vision comes back every time. But what’s amazing is that my vision is restored in the meantime.

A couple of month ago, as my doctor was giving me the shot, another vein was punctured which caused my eye to bleed out…the entire white part of my eye filled with blood making me look like a zombie, but amazingly didn’t interfere with my vision.

It cleared up on it’s own 2-3 weeks later, but was definitely quite a scare as you can imagine.

I am Nature’s Greatest Miracle.

Yesterday, I went in for my monthly shot and the doctor noticed something interesting happening within my eye. “Shunts” were forming and making an appearance.

The doctor said the body, especially the eye, is an amazing thing. Over time it will find a way to correct itself…either repair the damage or find a way around it. That’s what these “shunts” are doing.

“Shunts” are these tiny new blood vessels that have formed to reroute the flow of blood leaving my eye since the point of blockage cannot be repaired.

It’s a good thing, and I should see a faster recovery and eventually not need the shot in my eye much longer.

I am Nature’s Greatest Mircale!

Morning Recipes: NatraPear Blast


Every morning I start my day off with a health shake slash smoothie using two main products: NatraBurst and NatraBoost.

I often say that when you put them together you get a NatraBLAST!

NatraBurst has an interesting taste and texture, and it took many experiments to get the perfect blend of taste and texture…

…I finally found the SECRET! Pears.

Yah, who knew?!

I’m not really a fan of canned pears or fresh pears for that matter, but decided to try it in my smoothing one morning, and it made all the difference!

I wanted to share my EXACT recipe of what I call The NatrPear Blast!

Morning Recipe: NatraPear Blast

You will need the following:

First take the over-sized Magic Bullet container and fill it with 1/4 crushed ice and add cold water until it is half full.

Second, add 3-4 dropper full of NatraBoost.

Third, add pear halves/quarters until contain is about full (I even add a couple of spoonfuls of the pear juice).

Fourth, add one scoop of NatraBurst.

Fifth, twist on the ice-blender/crusher on top and blend for 30-seconds.

What will follow is what can only be described as a taste explosion in your mouth…SO GOOD!

As I develop and experiment with new recipes I’ll make sure that I post about them here. Having a NatraBLAST smoothie every morning. It’s packed full of essential vitamins and minerals and energy packed to boost off on the right foot to get me through the day.

A HUGE Waste of Time

They Joys of Being SickA couple of days ago I got a head cold that literally came out of nowhere! I was fine when I went to bed and miserable when I woke up. Being sick is a HUGE waste of time!

There’s SO MUCH that I need and want to get done, but when your head is about to explode…all I wanted to do is lay in bed and sleep or watch television, which is VERY rare for me.

I usually go to bed late working on my fortune, and wake up early to do the same before I go to the j.o.b…and thinking about it, my lack of sleep most likely contributed to my sudden onset of illness that kept me from delaying my fortune a couple of day.

This was a wake up call for me and realize that I need to be more balanced in what I do every day and come up with a morning routine that will maximize my health & wellness and energy output.

That being said I am going to adopt a friend of mine’s morning ritual, because it is obviously working for him. Plus he attributes his morning ritual to a lot of his monetary success from working at home full-time.

Success leaves clues and the ones who pick up the clues and apply them in their lives will also be successful. Nobody ever became healthy by doing what a fat person does every day. Nobody became rich by doing what a broke person does every day. Here’s a quick video of Mike’s morning ritual:

One thing I learned that when you come up with a plan to do something to improve your life is to put it in place immediately and take action. The longer you put it off the more likely it won’t happen.

Starting tomorrow I will be implementing this morning routine into my life and will put it to the test! I’m going to go to bed by 11 PM, wake up by 5:30 AM, and actually exercise! Being sick is a huge waste of time and something I would like to avoid at all costs…

…by doing this morning ritual will help me get there!

Adding Leafy Greens In Our Diet


Adding Leafy Greens In Our DietFor the past few months my wife has drastically changed the way we eat. I’ve said before that I haven’t fully gotten on board with the changes.

One of these changes is adding leafy greens in our diet. We have plenty of salad ALL of the time, but my wife adds spinach leaves in her morning shake.

I thought it was always kind of weird to do so and wasn’t a fan, but decided to do a little research and find out the health benefits of adding leafy greens in our diet.

Greens have an abundance of vitamins and minerals within them. One of the primary minerals present in greens is magnesium. Magnesium has an array of important functions in the body. Some of the benefits include:

  • Assists in the assimilation of calcium and potassium in the body
  • Ability to calm the nerves; suppressing anxiety
  • Primary ingredient for heart health
  • Helps control cortisol levels (stress hormone)
  • Improve insulin’s response to dietary sugar
  • Many other benefits

The main benefit that intrigues me the most is the primary ingredient for heart health. I currently have a high risk of heart disease and am endeavoring to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol levels and help my heart be more healthy. Especially after seeing my older brother recently go through a quadruple by-pass surgery a few weeks ago. I’m very motivated.

Adding Leafy Greens In Our Diet – Vitamin K

Most of us have probably never heard of this rather important nutrient. When children are born within a hospital environment, they are administered (without the full knowledge of the parent) a vitamin K injection.

Even in these environments (hospitals), they recognize the importance of vitamin K, however, we do not recommend that your intake of this essential vitamin be replaced with an injection. We do however encourage everyone to eat plenty of leafy greens as they are loaded with vitamin k1.

In essence, vitamin K plays an important role in a child’s bone development. The benefits of vitamin K include:

  • Regulates blood clotting
  • Helps protect bones from osteoporosis
  • May help prevent and possibly even reduce atherosclerosis by reducing calcium in arterial plaques
  • May be a key regulator of inflammation, and may help protect us from inflammatory diseases including arthritis
  • May help prevent diabetes

Vitamin K is a fat soluble vitamin it its best to have greens in salads with olive oil, as this will assist its absorption into the blood.

Adding Leafy Greens In Our Diet (how?)

Obviously, a salad is the best way to incorporate more leafy greens in the diet; however, it’s not very practical for many to eat salad morning, noon, and night. Like I said above, my wife has been adding them to her morning shake or smoothie.

By doing this, you can still get plenty of greens; however, you can experiment with flavors and recipes as greens go with almost anything! Here’s a quick video I found on adding leafy greens in our diet with smoothies.


  • 1 ½ cups of almond milk
  • 1 banana
  • 3-4 big handfuls of spinach
  • 4-5 leaves of mint (or desired taste)
  • a pinch or two of cayenne pepper

Add all ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth. Strain excess (optional), pour into glasses and serve (yields two servings).

My wife will be happy because starting tomorrow I will be adding more leafy greens in my diet, especially in my smoothies and morning shakes.

Facts About Obesity in America


About a year and a half ago I started to get serious about control my weight. It’s been a long difficult road, and I’m sure it will continue. According the a BMI Calculator, I am clinically obese. By the look of me you’d say I’m overweight or have a few extra pounds, but clinically…I’m obese.

That was a real eye opener for me as well as having high blood pressure at then age 33 with triple the risk of heart disease. My doctor put me on medication and ordered me to exercise five days a week for at least 30-minutes a day. I’m meeting with my doctor in a couple of weeks for my annual checkup and know that I probably still have high blood pressure.

Exercise is very difficult for me and have rarely done it for the past year. I’ve had another eye opening experience…my older brother just had surgery for a quadruple heart bypass due to some clogged arteries! He is ten or so years older and realize that could be me if I don’t take some serious action to improving my health.

I’m not alone when it comes to being obese. In fact, most Americans are obese, and it has become an epidemic. Next time you go to Wal-Mart take notice of the people around you…you may find there are few and far between who are skinny. I found this video on CDC TV that discusses some of the facts.

Facts About Obesity in America

  • 3 out of every 4 children are overweight or obese.
  • Obesity is common, serious and costly. In 2009-2010, more than one-third of U.S. adults (35.7%) were obese.
  • The medical care costs of obesity in the United States are staggering. In 2008 dollars, these costs totaled about $147 billion.

Solutions to Fight Obesity in America

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables and fewer foods, which are higher in fat and sugar.
  • Drink more water instead of sugary drinks.
  • Everyone regardless of age needs to get the recommended dose of daily physical activity (i.e. exercise)
  • Restrict television viewing [and other electronic devices] for children

I’ve been trying to improve my health and lose some weight, but as you may know can be very difficult. Over the last year or so I have been able to lose over 30 pounds, but have since gained about 10 or so back due to my lack of diligence and convenience of the fast food monster.

My primary online business is part of the health and wellness industry and am currently taking a super food blend called NatraBurst. It has over thirty fruits and vegetables in every serving. Adding this to my diet is helping me with some of the nutrition I desperately need. In addition to this, my wife has drastically changed our eating habits and have eliminated dairy and processed food from our home.
