Lessons Learned From Yoda

It’s amazing what you can learn from a movie! Life lessons that most fail to grasp or fail to implement. I know a lot of people who know about these lessons, but don’t do anything about it. Yoda gives some great advice to young Luke Skywalker in the following video:

Lessons Learned From Yoda

Luke: Master, moving stones around is one thing, but this is totally different!
Yoda: No! No different. Only different in your mind. You must unlearn what you have learned.

Luke: Alright, I’ll give it a try.
Yoda: No! Try not! Do or do not, there is no try.

Luke: I don’t…I don’t believe it!
Yoda: That is why you fail.

Everything we do is a state of mind. We have been taught bad habits all of our life that do not aid in our personal development. We must unlearn these bad habits and learn new good ones and become their slave. We alone have the power within ourselves to make that change.

“Try” is a self-defeating word. It sets yourself up as a way out or an excuse. How many times have we said or heard others say, “I tried it and it didn’t work?” Trying gets you nowhere where DOING moves you forward.

“Can’t” is a matter of disbelief. We need to believe in ourselves in order to succeed! Even if we have the DESIRE to believe, let that desire work in you. Belief will come. The belief leads in to having the faith to sustain the belief to gain the knowledge. Once we know, belief and faith are no longer required because we “know.”

Remember, YOU have the CHOICE to make it a GREAT day!

  1. I went to a conference some years back and they made us write down a list of all the things we say to ourselves we can’t do (like “I can’t speak Chinese”). After we wrote the list they made us change the word from “can’t” to “won’t.” So we had to read these lists saying “I won’t” (like “I won’t learn Chinese”). It was a very powerful teaching moment. It’s MINDSET!
