Making People Like You With Compliments

A true, sincere, genuine compliment to another person is one of the easiest and quickest way to make people like you.

Think about when you received a compliment? How did it make you feel?

Unless you have a difficult time receiving compliments, then most likely receiving a compliment makes you feel good.

If it’s a great compliment, the odds are just the memory of it is enough to bring a warm glow to an otherwise regular day.

But alas, true and good compliments are few and far between. Not only because of the rarity of them, but because of the lack of skill of the delivery.

BE SINCERE & MEAN IT. Above all, if you want to compliment someone on something they’ve done, or said, or how they look, make sure you mean what you have to say, otherwise it will come off as meaningless or worse disingenuous and you’ll wind up looking like a shallow person with little though going on between your ears.

MAKE IT PERSONAL. The best compliments are always personal for both the person making the compliment and the one receiving it. As an example, rather than saying something insipid and weak such as “Nice tie,” try something with more depth, like “Oh, with that tie on, you remind me of how charming and smooth George Clooney was in those Oceans movies.”

BE READY FOR THE REACTION. For every compliment made, there will be a reaction of some sort, and part of being able to compliment well, is being ready for whatever reaction may occur. Keep in mind, the reaction you get may not always be what you expect, and it may not even be positive. Your job is to be prepared for whatever may come and to respond in a kind and appropriate way.

These are just a few quick tips to making people like you with compliments.

Just one more thing, when you sincerely compliment someone, especially when you meet them for the first time, it lets their guard down and they are more likely to be more open and receptive to you as a person opening the flow of communication to connect on a deeper level not known to 99% of the population.
