Taking Personal Responsibility

Are you taking personal responsibility? Or…

Do you blame someone else for your problems?

Do you say, “It’s not my fault?”

Are you lazy and don’t like to work?

Do you expect handouts?

Are you entitled to get something for nothing?

Do you think you’re a “victim?”

I bring this up because I happened to check out the news last night, which I rarely do, and almost EVERY news website’s top story was about Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney and a comment he made back in may of 2012 at a private fundraiser.

Here’s the video clip that is causing the media to tear Mitt Romney apart:

After the footage was released, Obama campaign manager Jim Messina issued the following statement:

“It’s shocking that a candidate for President of the United States would go behind closed doors and declare to a group of wealthy donors that half the American people view themselves as “victims,” entitled to handouts, and are unwilling to take “personal responsibility” for their lives. It’s hard to serve as president for all Americans when you’ve disdainfully written off half the nation.”

And that is what most of the media is focusing on and why they are vilifying Mr. Romney. At the same time, Romney campaign communications director Gail Gitcho released a counter-statement:

“Mitt Romney wants to help all Americans struggling in the Obama economy. As the governor has made clear all year, he is concerned about the growing number of people who are dependent on the federal government, including the record number of people who are on food stamps, nearly one in six Americans in poverty, and the 23 million Americans who are struggling to find work. Mitt Romney’s plan creates 12 million new jobs in four years, grows the economy and moves Americans off of government dependency and into jobs.”

The media is focusing on how Mitt Romney doesn’t care about almost half of the American people and how can he President with that kind of viewpoint.

What the media is choosing NOT to focus on is the fact that almost HALF OF AMERICANS don’t pay any income taxes and depend on the government!

I would imagine that not all of these individuals are happy or comfortable in their dependence, but a majority of them are…they are perfectly content getting food stamps every month, receiving that unemployment check for 99 weeks, or not working additional hours so they won’t lose that social security check each month.

You don’t have charge of the constellations, but you do have charge of whether you read, develop new skills, and take new classes.” – Jim Rohn

Don’t get me wrong, I believe that some of these government programs are necessary FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT. For example, when my wife was pregnant with our first child, I was laid off from my job and was in between work. I didn’t file for for unemployment, but we did get on WIC for some basic food necessities.

That was a big help in a great time of need, but I was SO UNCOMFORTABLE and to be honest with you… embarrassed about it. It was a matter of pride, and I took personal responsibility for myself and after 2-3 months we were off WIC and making enough money to sustain my family.

But believe it not, there are people who take advantage of the programs and milk it for all it’s worth. I personally know some people that do. The time is now to take charge of your own life and take personal responsibility.
