For many people, working for yourself and being your own boss is the fulfillment of a life-long dream; for others it could be your worst nightmare.
Before you decide to quit your day job for self-employment, you must determine WHY you want to be self-employed.
For me, just going to to “work” and punching the old time clock is one reason among MANY why I want to work for myself.
There are many other questions that you should ask yourself such as:
- Are you bored with your traditional nine-to-five job?
- Are you seeking an opportunity to do what you want, when you want, and how you want?
- Are you opting for self-employment because you want to be your own boss?
- Do you believe self-employment will help improve your standard of living?
- Do you want a challenge?
- Are you ready to take control of your life and your career?
Once you know why you want to be self-employed, you will be able to determine if you have what it takes to make the transformation from employee to independent contractor (freelancer, consultant, or entrepreneur – whatever term you prefer).
Working for yourself does take a certain MINDSET and are willing to learn and develop new skills. Realizing that you do not need all the traits of a successful entrepreneur and self-employed individual right away. It will take time and work to acquire the MINDSET, SKILL SET, and PERFORMANCE to get the RESULTS to be successful.
If you don’t build your dream, someone else
will hire you to build theirs. -Tony Gaskins
I LOVE that quote! It has become my mantra as I make my transformation from employee to entrepreneur! It’s a constant reminder that the work I’m doing is for someone else’s dream and not my own.
I’m making the time, I have the patience, I have the funds, I am motivated, I am a self-starter, I’m a leader, I am competitive, I know how to organize and plan, and I can make decisions…CAN YOU?
Remember, only YOU have the CHOICE to make it a GREAT day!
